I do repost because:

I want to keep things in order, and my web host had an unfortunate server collapse and my backup was to old and some posts went astray. Google had them tucked away: So here they are. Reposted and shiny.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Kind regards
Arve

Mitch Mitchell

Mitch Mitchell is dead. It makes me sad. The world has lost another giant. Here is a link I found in a Mitch Mitchell group on facebook: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jE80W5xYbTI&feature=related

Tear out the old stuff, build something new. That fits.

I am a fan of car audio. When at home with family or other people you can’t go AC/DC on, the car stereo is a saver: You just have to wait until the next drive.

I don’t have a car at the moment, but I went to see some other cars with stereos in them at the Emma (European Mobile Media Association) exhibition in Tønsberg last Saturday. A friend of mine, Frode, was one of the exhibitors (Bassbrothers), and he was kind enough to give me a tour. Check out Bassbrothers’ website for more info about car audio.

I learned a couple of things:
1: These guys are not afraid of building, tearing apart, make a new interior that is supreme compared to what came as default.
2: Building things in plastic is not a problem, it is a necessity.
3: Definition (frequency and space (ie panning)) in good car audio is superior to a lot of high end studio monitors I have put my ears in front of.
4: A dashboard, or any other part not suitable for a stereo, goes out. A new one is built, and take my word for it: A Toyota doesn’t have to be.. toyota.

What impresses me the most, is the new parts that these guys put togheter. It is amazing. Rapid prototyping seems to be a time waster. They just make stuff, and do so without fancy tooling.

I am going to learn from the car audio people.

Stompstock

So this is the Stompstock beta version.

It is intended for testing of the ….avols modules that I’ve written about before. Obviously I will write a longer text about this system when it is ready for intensive testing as a finished product, but for those who are interested I hope that these tiny posts about Stompstock is somewhat interesting and I will keep posting as new features gets implemented. On the list is preset morphing, mapping module for timed events, a granulation module and hardware. The hardware is on the drawing table, and will be there until I am sure it is flexible, scalable and has a splendid artwork.

Oh, and here is another module: The Playavols:

playavols_

The Playavols is a player for uncompressed audio files, and is as simple as it gets: You drop a file in the white region, hit the buttons to get it to play in a loop or just once. You can do pause and resume and off course play and stop. Playavols does not react to input signal but passes on the output from the module that is before it in the signal chain. The bypass switch mutes the audio file, but it keeps on playing in the background always ready to resound.

This is beta 0.5 of the AvolsFX-system

AvolsFX

AvolsFX

The AvolsFX are ready for beta testing (other testers than myself that is…). More modules will be available as they are finished, but these five are the starters. The sonic possibilities goes from nada (bypass) via subtle tremolo, delay, kompression and drive to complete madness. The ringmodulator can be anything but subtle, however capable of some very nice sounds.

There are so many things going on right now, and I am working on a project that occupy my daytime, so now as this system is ready for beta testing, it is a matter of bugfixing and polish before I put it out for anyone to get it. Pricing is still TBA.

Cheers

There is nothing funny about a server collapse

Especially when data is lost. My web host has had a server issue, and as I, stupidly, relied on their backup routines, I have no other backup than their old one from a to long ago. Sorry.

No use crying over lost posts, but it is very annoying. It is like a fire in a paper stack or something. I’ll make my own backup to keep things safe hereafter. But do I have to print things on wet paper to keep stuff safe?
